Experteer Overview
In this role you lead the Augusta Law Department to guide the City/County’s legal affairs, partnering with the Mayor, Board of Commissioners and department leaders to advance priorities and uphold public trust. You provide proactive legal counsel, manage risk, and oversee budgets and outside counsel for a large municipal government. You will attend meetings to guide agenda items and ensure compliance, while building a modern, responsive law function. This is an impact-driven opportunity in a complex, high-profile local government setting.

Verantwortungsbereiche
- Lead day-to-day operations of the Law Department and build a high-performance, service-oriented culture
- Provide proactive legal counsel and representation to the Mayor/Commission, County Administrator, and boards/authorities
- Attend public meetings to deliver real-time guidance on agenda items, parliamentary issues, and compliance
- Represent officers and employees in court and administrative proceedings
- Manage budgets, outside counsel, and risk mitigation strategies aligned with organizational priorities
Zentrale Anforderungen
- Juris Doctorate or Doctor of Laws from an accredited institution
- Seven (7) years of legal experience, including at least four (4) years in local government
- Active member of State Bar of Georgia, Georgia Court of Appeals, and Georgia Supreme Court, or licensed to practice in Georgia
- Substantial litigation experience and expertise in municipal law
- Budget management and supervisory experience
