Job Description:
Leonardo is one of the strategic industrial partners - together with British BAE Systems and Japanese Mitsubishi Heavy Industries - in the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), aimed at the development and production of a next-generation air system, defined as a 'system of systems'. Used for multi-domain defence operations, the system is characterised by a 'core platform' connected with other piloted and uncrewed peripheral adjunct systems.
The programme, one of the most challenging and futuristic in the Aerospace and Defence industry, will lead the technological revolution that will shape the sector over the next fifty years. It is aimed at strengthening the technological and industrial sovereignty of the involved countries, because it focuses on identifying and making available innovative enabling technologies that will ensure the generational leap, producing positive returns, as well as economic and social progress for the partners' countries, benefitting the new generations.

We are looking for a: Engineering Management Lead

Key Responsabilities
Project Management:
* Oversee the full lifecycle of core platform development from concept through delivery
* Ensure overall engineering schedule integration with key internal/external dependencies and resource demand identification.
* Serve as primary point of contact for quarterly planning activity definition and monitoring.
* Ensure engineering projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution.
Technical Oversight:
* Ensure the engineering technical maturity of the product through ad hoc metrics and review gates identification (and chairing).
* Ensure core platform engineering deliverables are identified, agreed and managed.
* Ensure capability needs are identified, captured and managed with interface into the Enablers and the Tech Development teams.
* Ensure core platform support to bids.
Stakeholder Communication:
* Serve as point of contact for Systems Engineering, Engineering Integration and Governance (SEEIG) senior management, additional external stakeholders
* Communicate project status, risks, and technical progress to senior leadership and stakeholders.
* Coordinate with external suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure project requirements are met (e.g. Long Lead Time Items).
Risk and Quality Management:
* Support potential risks identification to the development process and implement mitigation strategies.
* Ensure that engineering processes adhere to strict quality control standards and industry best practices.
Compliance and Documentation:
* Ensure adherence to and support SEEIG derived governance.
* Ensure Learning from Experience /continuous improvement is identified, captured and managed/actioned.
Education: Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, System Engineering, Management Engineering or a related field.
Seniority: Expert
Requirements:
* Strong knowledge of MS Office
* Strong knowledge of MS Project
* Familiarity with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) principles
* Proven track record of leading large, complex engineering teams on advanced aerospace projects, particularly in the defense sector.
* Experience in managing full-scale engineering projects, including system development cycle and associated review processes (e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR).
Attitudes:
* Ability to interact with different cultures
* Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface with both technical teams and senior leadership.
* Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic development environment
Language skills:
* English: Excellent
* Italian: excellent written and spoken
Other:
Availability for frequent business travel and subsequent UK relocation for 3/5 years
